Oil and Gas Transition Training Fund
Current and former oil and gas workers can access up to £4,000 of funding to upskill or retrain for the renewables sector.
The Oil and Gas Transition Training Fund offers financial help for workers in the Scottish oil and gas sector to upskill and reskill for careers in renewable and sustainable energy.
Administered by Skills Development Scotland (SDS), the fund is a partnership between the Scottish and UK Governments.
If you’re currently, or have recently been, employed in the oil and gas industry in Aberdeen or Aberdeenshire, you can apply for up to £4,000 of funding for training to help you transition to the renewable energy sector.

Key Information
Eligibility
To access the funding, you must be:
- Currently or recently employed in the oil and gas sector or its wider supply chain (within the past 24 months*).
- Live in Aberdeen or Aberdeenshire, or work for an employer with an Aberdeen or Aberdeenshire office.
- Resident in Scotland and have the right to work in the UK.
- Able to demonstrate how the training will improve your prospects of accessing a job in the renewable or sustainable energy sector.
*There may be exceptions made for those returning to work after a career break.
Training requirements
The training should be industry-recognised and focus on accessing roles in all aspects of renewable and sustainable energy sectors, such as offshore wind, hydrogen, EV charging, carbon capture and storage, and heat pumps.
Training should be completed by 31 March 2026.
Fees can be match-funded by your employer. If you work for a company that operates in both oil and gas and renewable energy, you should confirm that you have discussed the possibility of them funding or match-funding your training.
Please note, the fund is not for recertification of existing skills.
How to apply
Applications are made via the transitiontrainingfund.scot website.
You’ll first need to register on the website. Once you have created your account, you can build your package of training and submit an application for funding.
SDS advisers will support you throughout the process.
