What you will get
College Certificate
Whether you’re new to painting or want to refresh your skills, this course provides a supportive space to experiment, learn, and create.
You will start by familiarising yourself with the essential tools, surfaces, and techniques for both acrylics and oils, including colour mixing, brush and palette knife handling, layering, and basic composition. Early sessions will focus on acrylics, exploring their fast-drying and versatile nature. Later sessions will introduce oils, with guidance on blending, glazing, and safe working practices when using solvents and mediums.
Subjects will include your own choice of observation in still life, landscape, storytelling, using texture and abstraction, offering a variety of creative approaches and visual challenges. Through tutor demonstrations, hands-on exercises, and individual feedback, you’ll gain the confidence to work in both media and begin developing your own painting style.
By the end of the course, you’ll have a clear understanding of the differences and possibilities of acrylic and oil painting, along with a collection of finished pieces and the skills to continue painting independently.
